How to tell the Clean the Library maps apart mid-run
Three practical checks that work without needing a wiki open in another tab.
Count staircases, not shelves
Shelf count will not tell you which map you are on - both total 31 zones. The reliable signal is floors. Classic Library never opens a 3rd staircase. If one appears, you are in a Grand Library run and should expect a 4th floor before the round ends.
Check the panel near your spawn
Most runs show a small floor indicator near the entrance or the elevator shaft. If you spawned mid-round after a late join, this is faster than counting staircases from scratch.
Do not assume shelf codes carry over
The Horror shelf at 1H and the Anime shelf at 2B are confirmed for Classic Library specifically. If you are in a Grand Library run, do not assume 3A or 4B hold the same categories - we have not verified that mapping yet, and neither has any source we could confirm. Treat Grand Library shelves as unlabeled until you read the in-game category yourself.

Why the shelf count matches but the layout doesn't
A structural quirk worth knowing before you plan a route.
Both maps land on 31 total shelf zones, which is easy to miss if you only ever play one rotation. Classic Library splits that total 14-17 across 2 floors. Grand Library reportedly splits it 7-9-8-7 across 4 floors. Same total workload, different distribution - Grand Library trades fewer shelves per floor for more trips up and down stairs, which changes which upgrades matter most.

This site separates confirmed public-source mappings from values that still need an in-game pass. Floor 1 sections 1A-1J and Floor 2 sections 2A-2G are listed with their current known categories. Unconfirmed shelves stay marked as TBD / verify so players do not memorize invented data.
